U.S. Forest Service Recreation Area with over 10,000 acres in the Pisgah National Forest including Mackey Mountain, a Black Bear sanctuary. The primary road connects to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Tent camping and RV sites (fees apply, campground host on site) available plus hiking trails and one waterfall. Curtis Creek Recreation Area was the first parcel of land purchased as a result of the Weeks Act in 1911. Two Civil Conservation Corps camps were located here. Two trout streams, Curtis Creek and Newberry Creek with handicapped access available on Curtis Creek. Open April - December 31st.
