Historic Old Fort

Once known as the westernmost outpost in North Carolina, Old Fort has retained much of its original forest lands that are now part of the Pisgah National Forest. The town of approximately 900 residents is becoming well known for its challenging backcountry downhill trails, waterfalls, quaint downtown, and perfectly crafted spirits.

You'll also find Mountain Gateway Museum, the Arrowhead Gallery and Studios, the Arrowhead Monument and Old Fort Train Depot.

During the mid 19th century, Old Fort was well known as a tourism destination offering a cooler climate and lovely accommodations at the Round Knob Hotel, located adjacent to the town's first train depot. Unfortunately, the two historic buildings were lost to fire. This railroad history is also tied to Andrews Geyser and the 19th-century train depot located on Main Street.

A short drive from downtown is the Curtis Creek Area with more hiking and biking trails. Curtis Creek, Mill Creek, and the upper section of the Catawba River are all trout streams. Old Fort is a N.C.
