This unique outdoors experience in the Pisgah National Forest allows folks of all levels of accessibility to enjoy the beauty of our local forests. The new 1-mile Meadows Loop hiking trail is wheelchair accessible and provides a beginner-friendly experience along a wide gravel surface adjacent to Curtis Creek. The Meadows Loop opens up access to Curtis Creek for fishing and swimming, traverse through a wetland on a series of boardwalks and walk alongside a meadow for bird watching and wildlife viewing.
The Meadows Loop Trail was funded by McDowell County as part of a grant from the NC Water Resources Program and is the first phase of a larger project to restore the rare bottomland hardwood forest.
