Old Fort Picnic Area

This U.S. Forest Service property is an idyllic oasis with picnic tables scattered through the property. Listen to a babbling creek while enjoying lunch or dinner. You'll find the trailhead for Young's Ridge Trail, this steep trail joins Kitsuma Peak taking you to the top of the mountain and exiting into the Kitsuma Peak Trail parking lot, close to Ridgecrest Conference Center. If you decide to hike this trail, keep an ear out for mountain bikes, it's a multi-use trail.

Another hiking option, leave your car here and walk or bike out onto Old US 70, turn left. Go to the end of the road to pick up Point Lookout Trail. This 3.62 mile (one way) paved route is another favorite of hikers and cyclists. It's non-motorized and no horses are allowed. Benches are along the route that opens to awesome views of the Royal Gorge.
