New in Old Fort: Whaley Farm Brewery

Whaley Farm Brewery.jpg

There’s a new spot to relax with a pint along the banks of Old Fort’s Mill Creek. Whaley Farm Brewery is now serving a selection of farmhouse-inspired and pub-style beers from its new brewery and taproom on Catawba Avenue.

You can’t miss the big barn doors or the old-fashioned weather vane on the brewery’s bright white building. The architecture — just like the beers Whaley makes — is designed to pay homage to the agricultural heritage of Western North Carolina.

Co-owner and experienced brewer Chris Whaley has created a draft list that includes lagers, bitters, cask ales and grisettes made with local malts and flavored with local ingredients. Some of those local ingredients are raised by his wife and co-owner, Jessica Whaley, on her farm in nearby Black Mountain.

The Whaleys are excited to introduce even more local flavors to their guests. One wall of the brewery — referred to as the farmstore — is lined with refrigerated cases featuring fruits, vegetables, cheeses, snacks, crackers and soft drinks made or grown right here in the Blue Ridge.

Enjoy your beer and snacks in the brewery’s comfortable taproom, on the covered patio overlooking Mill Creek or under a sunshine yellow umbrella. Take home Whaley Farm favorites in bottles or growlers, and don’t forget to grab a T-shirt, hat or mug to celebrate your new favorite brewery.
