There’s nothing quite like the thrill of catching your very own fish!

Visitors of all ages will love fishing for fresh trout in the pond at Marion’s Buck Creek Trout Farm. The trout are egg-hatched and hand-fed to market size, and the folks at Buck Creek provide everything you need — poles, bait and a place to clean your catch (or have someone clean it for you). No fishing license is required!

The trout farm is a great place to gather with family or friends. Bring a lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic tables surrounding the pond. Or rent the large covered picnic pavilion for group events or special occasions.

Be sure to stop at the Buck Creek Country Store to take home some applewood smoked trout. The store also carries snacks, local honey, jams and jellies — plus candles, T-shirts, hats, mugs and other souvenirs. The store is open March through November — check the website for details.

Plan Your Visit to Buck Creek Trout Farm

Buck Creek Trout Farm is located at 74 Rainbow Trout Drive in Marion. From downtown Marion, take US 221 Business north to US 70. Turn left on US 70 and follow it for two miles before turning right on NC Hwy 80 North. Continue for 8.5 miles, and the trout farm will be on your left.

This stretch of road is also called the Devil's Whip and is popular with motorcyclists and motorists for its curvy mountain pass that takes you up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The shop has Devil's Whip patches and t-shirts you can pick up to commemorate your drive.
